Men's Monday Message: Independence Day

Good morning mighty men of valor!

Happy Independence Day!

This Saturday is our nation's birthday!

250 years ago… the day it was declared that we are a free nation.

We are free!

We are not perfect, but we are free.

Many feel our freedoms are being challenged.

I would suggest that they have always been and are still being challenged.

For the Christian, we have been granted liberty from the bondage of sin and death as we are "no longer slaves" to iniquity (Ro 6:6).We have been set free.... Granted independence.Given the choice to choose life over death (Deut 30:19).But our independence is only assured if we choose to be dependent upon the only true freedom fighter, The Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes, just as our country tries to figure out how to govern well and how to overcome its errors… to live with this granted liberty, we too, not being perfect, yet have been granted liberty from sin, our flesh and our lusts. We must learn to live in this granted liberty… to be more Christ-like… to use this liberty, this freedom selfishly, but to bring freedom to those yet bound.  

William Wallace, from the film Braveheart, asks his troops "what will you do ​with your freedom?”…

Good question for the Christian as well. 

I do not believe it is just for our own benefit… to escape the perils of the wages of sin and death, but to give a hand to another. 

As Jesus said “make disciples”… preach the gospel, the truth, so all can elect freedom through the Lordship of Christ.

So, I ask again… what will you do WITH your freedom!
